Sketching is a favorite ritual because it combines both internal and external observation. The sketches are glimpses, vignettes and often unplanned stories. </span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">They are a stream of consciousness where pen and ink make the unintentional intentional. </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The results are a visual journal expressing the magic I find in this landscape of objects and place. </span></div><div>There's a thread that weaves through my sketchbooks that advises me on what to paint and this group of artworks is another phase of my listening. </div><div>Lands End Project distills my visual experience. The balance between opposing forces, the tension of opposites and the space between. The ephemeral nature of a ripe persimmon placed upon the enduring strength of the rock that remains long after the lifespan of the vibrant fruit. Mortality and immortality coexist. The sky and sea reinforce the solidity of the stone altar and speak to the changing climates and seasons of a lifetime.</div><div>At this point in my evolution as an artist I extend my artwork to integrate all the iconic elements of the world familiar to me near the coast at Lands End. In doing so I aim to unify these disparate components and reveal their essential meaning in a spectacular place where grounding gives way to an ocean of limitless possibility. </div><div><br></div><div>- Jay Mercado</div></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sVfjcoYjYnc/Vkvrk9KyT_I/AAAAAAAABvw/owDsI6zvRGw/s640/blogger-image-609023217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sVfjcoYjYnc/Vkvrk9KyT_I/AAAAAAAABvw/owDsI6zvRGw/s640/blogger-image-609023217.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-72578787233063325872015-05-01T13:09:00.001-07:002015-05-01T13:09:15.606-07:00Painting Donuts will never get stale.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Much gratitude to Sam Whiting and the San Francisco Chronicle for the recent story about my donut painting exploits. I've been painting these timeless icons since I opened my art studio long ago in part because All Star Donuts have consistently been making the best classic donuts up the block at 10th avenue and Clement Street. I also paint subjects from the produce markets but the donuts have a unique allure due to their nostalgic whimsy. In April six of my donuts became a permanent display at the new Genentech building in South San Francisco to pay homage to the previous structure on the same foot where donuts were made. I had a big Donut exhibit at my studio in 2008 and perhaps it's time to create another? In the meantime my donut art can be found at CK Contemporary Gallery near Union Square in downtown San Francisco. I also have a few at my studio. Indulge!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n12HrTFsfxs/VUPdWWFWVhI/AAAAAAAABvI/sTpiWycGaL0/s640/blogger-image-1820272510.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n12HrTFsfxs/VUPdWWFWVhI/AAAAAAAABvI/sTpiWycGaL0/s640/blogger-image-1820272510.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9PpQkV37yw8/VUPdabLvuQI/AAAAAAAABvQ/TM00f86Svho/s640/blogger-image--1176082836.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9PpQkV37yw8/VUPdabLvuQI/AAAAAAAABvQ/TM00f86Svho/s640/blogger-image--1176082836.jpg"></a></div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-87280476662449657912015-03-03T09:38:00.001-08:002015-03-03T09:41:01.039-08:00How art can impact a space. This is an excellent example of how artwork has the power to impact an interior space. I've been painting donuts for years partly because there is a fine donut shop, one block from my art studio, at the corner of 10th avenue and Clement Street. I'm not the only one who feels they make the best classic donuts in the city, and the staff is always cheerful. Convenience of a subject notwithstanding, donuts are iconic. They represent a nostalgic whimsy. As a boy donuts were my reward at the last stop on my SF Chronicle paper route, a donut shop. Back then a hot cinnamon roll was my donut of choice. For me it was the king of donuts. Nothing created more incentive to complete a cold morning of tossing newspapers than the promise of a fresh cinnamon roll. Everyone that comes to me for a donut painting seems to have experiences to match. It's fond memories like those that linger and make me smile while painting this timeless American icon. <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-K80OrqS8BHw/VPPaFxdrFKI/AAAAAAAABt8/Yo4BM-W5iGo/s640/blogger-image--1652993846.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-K80OrqS8BHw/VPPaFxdrFKI/AAAAAAAABt8/Yo4BM-W5iGo/s640/blogger-image--1652993846.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Tyy1O1IPX2A/VPPaBx5TJuI/AAAAAAAABt0/xLU-xjChing/s640/blogger-image--1274114946.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Tyy1O1IPX2A/VPPaBx5TJuI/AAAAAAAABt0/xLU-xjChing/s640/blogger-image--1274114946.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IGzR-sa96gM/VPPZ9qo_iTI/AAAAAAAABts/V6R5JNazH9k/s640/blogger-image-90733476.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IGzR-sa96gM/VPPZ9qo_iTI/AAAAAAAABts/V6R5JNazH9k/s640/blogger-image-90733476.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-1982964905608441402015-02-20T12:32:00.001-08:002015-02-20T12:32:01.303-08:00Studio Harvest Art Sale this Saturday!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">For those interested in the artworks that are integral in the development of the creation of a large painting I offer a small series of seven harvest paintings for sale this Saturday at my art studio from 1pm to 5pm. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Each artwork is an oil painting on panel and measures 10" x 20" and is ready for hanging. Studies are often more loose, spontaneous and explore possibilities that inform the ultimate finished piece. I choose to make them for that reason. They are an important step for me and my process of discovering and distilling imagery for big art. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Please inquire if you are interested and cannot come by. San Francisco offers many delicious diversions on these warm weekend days. I'm grateful to everyone who walks through my art studio doors to see what I'm making. A parade of people came through and shared in artful festivities. For me those two days amplify my already growing gratitude for all the support I've received over the years at 10th and California. It must be true for all career paths right?Mentors, Medici, angels and patrons show up at the right time to keep the fire burning. The unexpected arrive at pivotal moments to stir up flames from embers. Sometimes they blow wind into still sails. Commitment, motivation and perseverance build fine momentum but even the most stalwart and steadfast person can be thrown off course. Trailblazers do get lost. And even what's perceived as a solitary pursuit actually requires many hands. Maybe especially, so as I remain wholehearted about my path I'm also wholeheartedly grateful for those who have supported this artist in countless ways. My flames are burning and my sails are full.<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5zJXs5BPl4s/VGv7EpPSjeI/AAAAAAAABrE/9gST6i_oLTU/s640/blogger-image-358684657.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5zJXs5BPl4s/VGv7EpPSjeI/AAAAAAAABrE/9gST6i_oLTU/s640/blogger-image-358684657.jpg"></a></div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-61307263176886841652014-11-03T11:23:00.001-08:002014-11-03T17:58:16.649-08:00SF Open Studios & my 20th Anniversary Studio Celebration. Many things in life are magical, mysterious, and unexpected. So embracing this truth has become a necessary part of my life and certainly instrumental in art making itself. When I realized my art studio has been up and running in the same location since 1994, I was mind-boggled. Twenty years? I've changed. My art has changed. San Francisco has changed. And I'm still here. In fact, my presence here is largely due to generous support from art patrons, friends, family and the community where my studio is located. Without these great people I'd be embracing an entirely different uncertainty! <div>My art studio is celebrating this momentous milestone all weekend (both Saturday & Sunday) from 11am to 6-ish. At 36"x "48" it seems to hold up. I'll try it as a larger charcoal drawing and then a big painting. Somewhere within the three methods exists the answer I'm looking for in which to proceed with the others. All answers are found in the labor. The unknown. How else will I know unless I just go? Ultimately it's not as much what creation comes from the hard work. It's what the hard work creates in the worker yes?</div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4ctmiBAhS8I/VEbf5dygXtI/AAAAAAAABqk/pWVpWeI3LgM/s640/blogger-image--1609541311.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; When are they ever finished? When they leave the studio. From rough journal and yellow pad pen concept sketches to 48"x 60" canvases, these three jumbo creations have initiated my temptation series. Each will participate in the September still life exhibit at CK Contemporary Gallery here in San Francisco. <div><br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I3FhM17Q3bU/U_TMY_h0DeI/AAAAAAAABmo/Z8hZDc20lfg/s640/blogger-image-1958814489.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I3FhM17Q3bU/U_TMY_h0DeI/AAAAAAAABmo/Z8hZDc20lfg/s640/blogger-image-1958814489.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j7KFC9UViOU/U_TMWpjbUsI/AAAAAAAABmg/URU11S0v5F8/s640/blogger-image-953674624.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j7KFC9UViOU/U_TMWpjbUsI/AAAAAAAABmg/URU11S0v5F8/s640/blogger-image-953674624.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ls_zDdD2rJU/U_TMd0xLAfI/AAAAAAAABm4/fGbYsfTlIr8/s640/blogger-image-1947912876.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ls_zDdD2rJU/U_TMd0xLAfI/AAAAAAAABm4/fGbYsfTlIr8/s640/blogger-image-1947912876.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-BbWYi92FPmQ/U_TMazQQ2UI/AAAAAAAABmw/36REbk6j9Kg/s640/blogger-image--1370869806.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-BbWYi92FPmQ/U_TMazQQ2UI/AAAAAAAABmw/36REbk6j9Kg/s640/blogger-image--1370869806.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0cj4TJRO_C4/U_TMhwREO7I/AAAAAAAABnI/3FuPjc6EkIY/s640/blogger-image-1630324132.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0cj4TJRO_C4/U_TMhwREO7I/AAAAAAAABnI/3FuPjc6EkIY/s640/blogger-image-1630324132.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zFf60geUD3w/U_TMf5FSdvI/AAAAAAAABnA/FFVTbXU-sLk/s640/blogger-image-522042427.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zFf60geUD3w/U_TMf5FSdvI/AAAAAAAABnA/FFVTbXU-sLk/s640/blogger-image-522042427.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-51754094840736449212014-06-26T08:02:00.001-07:002014-06-26T08:17:25.055-07:00The 6th Annual Summer Studio Drawing Sale!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Join us this Saturday and Sunday 6/28-29 for drawings galore! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Everything begins with a drawing. It's my interpretation of a field and the workers there about forty-seven miles south of San Francisco. Along the coast the climate apparently is ideal for strawberries. It's a place I enjoy leaving SF to visit and observe. To sketch, draw and study. To get out of the studio and see real labor juxtaposed with a beautiful ocean backdrop is one way to calibrate myself. Making it into a painting is another.<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B8gXNTxMgFQ/U6tUvFzkBuI/AAAAAAAABkI/0VgiWE-ZwQA/s640/blogger-image-1107157981.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B8gXNTxMgFQ/U6tUvFzkBuI/AAAAAAAABkI/0VgiWE-ZwQA/s640/blogger-image-1107157981.jpg"></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G2Bj283JLhk/U6tUzCfimbI/AAAAAAAABkY/cxRVYxHixNs/s640/blogger-image-265946045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G2Bj283JLhk/U6tUzCfimbI/AAAAAAAABkY/cxRVYxHixNs/s640/blogger-image-265946045.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m-NmBnOfJwI/U6tU73_SJlI/AAAAAAAABkw/ovz0aJXfBJ0/s640/blogger-image-1532734481.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m-NmBnOfJwI/U6tU73_SJlI/AAAAAAAABkw/ovz0aJXfBJ0/s640/blogger-image-1532734481.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-RoljbhEcu0M/U6tU44598TI/AAAAAAAABko/FoMkhX86qMk/s640/blogger-image--1230429248.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-RoljbhEcu0M/U6tU44598TI/AAAAAAAABko/FoMkhX86qMk/s640/blogger-image--1230429248.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zAqURknbDBE/U6tU2kLLlqI/AAAAAAAABkg/D6Rdde2dRcM/s640/blogger-image-72953392.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zAqURknbDBE/U6tU2kLLlqI/AAAAAAAABkg/D6Rdde2dRcM/s640/blogger-image-72953392.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Excuse the inconsistent photos. I always look forward to making the trek to Japantown for my perfect bound blank book. It waits for me stacked with its brethren there at Kinokuniya Stationery and Gift Shop. Actually the shop itself is worthy of a visit even if for no reason whatsoever. This place is as unique as the selection of journals, sketchbooks and pens it carries. The shelves display an eclectic array of cool and kooky items that are quintessential Japanese. I explore some but I'm only interested in the notebook. It's been my choice since the '90s. Since I take my journal everywhere it's vital that the volume takes a good roughing up and doesn't fall apart. This book is extremely durable. The cover usually gets a sketch or a paint job and this time I've chosen to sketch the front with a symbol to indicate what lies within. These two paintings and a charcoal study for another sit in temporary stasis. Very temporary. The drawing is for a commission in progress over on another easel. And while the west wall features a still life quartet coming alive, on the north floor two big pieces wait their turn to be mounted on panels, retouched and framed. On the drawing board are more rock studies. One rock painting is getting attention too. Yesterday was foggy. Today there was sun. I begin a new journal tomorrow.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-aS1Zi1hAsSQ/U0dr4L7gIlI/AAAAAAAABiI/-nSbdabKuYE/s640/blogger-image--415889809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-aS1Zi1hAsSQ/U0dr4L7gIlI/AAAAAAAABiI/-nSbdabKuYE/s640/blogger-image--415889809.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Wkp6jsjO-b0/U0dr2VOjrlI/AAAAAAAABiA/Yi1qeurEMOE/s640/blogger-image--1219510450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Wkp6jsjO-b0/U0dr2VOjrlI/AAAAAAAABiA/Yi1qeurEMOE/s640/blogger-image--1219510450.jpg"></a></div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-84499102513125206562014-04-09T18:57:00.001-07:002014-04-09T19:42:05.034-07:00...easel to easel.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Working on one creation at a time only happens in the moment. Except for quick sketches, figure drawing sessions and the rare plein air painting, I've always bounced from easel to easel to drawing-board to sketchbook and back again. All projects are happening simultaneously. It's a dance that keeps the ideas vibrating. Orbiting. Flowing. Fresh. The possibilty of new perspectives. Seeing the overlooked. The time away from each artwork is vital. But so is maintaining an intimate relationship with each piece. Balance. Individuation. It's the way I've evolved in my studio. It's how I think. And pivotal in my orbiting is the sketchbook. A delicious meander into streams of consciousness. Sure it's in those sanctuaries of creative display and output that artists share their observations, responses and expressions. Visions pulled from within are put on paper. Vistas seen from without are scrubbed on canvas. Symbols and icons built from anything and everything are suddenly there to share. Actually not so suddenly. These big ideas hang on the the main walls demanding and getting most of the attention. Yet in these colorful spaces there are also hiding places. There are niches, drawers and back rooms. The cloakrooms of temporarily overlooked art. There waiting in hiding spots, for that adventurous and discerning seeker of the unexpected, are treasures. Drawings, sketches, paint studies, doodles on paper cups, and experimental art of all kinds. Virtuous in their ability to catch an eye despite being out of the limelight for the moment. A painting reclines against the wall by a door near the flatfile and beams bright in the dim light. A discovery! A carved figurine sitting on a busy shelf appears from the clutter as the paragon of elegant beauty. Uplifting! A charcoal rendering peaks out of a drawer and speaks with explosive power. Unforgettable! </font></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><font face="Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif">For the intrepid art lover or collector there's much to be found in not so obvious places. Below are four. On my road trip to Los Angeles (for a college reunion) I found many places <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">to linger and observe. The </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">shoreline around Santa Barbara is where I found some familiar captivating scenes. These quick drawings act as reminders of what I felt at the time. Such as the feeling of peace while in the presence of such strength and majesty. I'm editing out most everything, except what I find most compelling. The rocks, sea, clouds and bands of hillsides. Nothing man made, except, I am </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">tempted to include the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train that sprints through parallel and close to the beach. It makes an undeniable impact. Like a rogue wave it comes fast then it's gone. So perhaps I'd better go back to Santa Barbara for another look.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iO54pmfll-0/Ux_VgKwTeJI/AAAAAAAABe0/SusLBg2ppwo/s640/blogger-image-811476404.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iO54pmfll-0/Ux_VgKwTeJI/AAAAAAAABe0/SusLBg2ppwo/s640/blogger-image-811476404.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qxbw5se75vs/Ux_VhtQhg-I/AAAAAAAABe8/FluxUSLkABc/s640/blogger-image--1871268744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qxbw5se75vs/Ux_VhtQhg-I/AAAAAAAABe8/FluxUSLkABc/s640/blogger-image--1871268744.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-y5YURtbSW3Q/Ux_VeZZrYEI/AAAAAAAABes/ld6NLSOGeoM/s640/blogger-image-548472335.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-y5YURtbSW3Q/Ux_VeZZrYEI/AAAAAAAABes/ld6NLSOGeoM/s640/blogger-image-548472335.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zU-MSBiLc4g/Ux_VjaZQ7SI/AAAAAAAABfE/RueZCmEyZeA/s640/blogger-image-677179592.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zU-MSBiLc4g/Ux_VjaZQ7SI/AAAAAAAABfE/RueZCmEyZeA/s640/blogger-image-677179592.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-32428987677013574252014-03-05T07:24:00.001-08:002014-03-05T07:24:25.823-08:00...art is everywhere.<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Art is everywhere. Whatever appears or seems to be an obstacle is in reality fuel for creativity. It's a gift. A sign. Guide. They will always come and the only difference is how we perceive them. This spot is close yet remote. <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I've chosen this location to interpret because of what I find to be an uncanny juxtaposition between the toil of </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">field labor and a glorious ocean view. The flower itself is a fantastic visual treat and it's beauty is matched by its own perfume. It's impossible to capture the rare aroma it exudes through my art. It's not a rose. It's paint. Still I was compelled to honor this flower just the same. I've reworked this painting several times and finally it is complete as the composition above. Fragrant Cloud, 24"x24" oil on canvas.</div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214361728742834121.post-74140370472551451782014-01-30T19:19:00.001-08:002014-02-06T20:59:47.310-08:00...my painting finds a home.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xOd7qrW-lrk/UusWRjmmYdI/AAAAAAAABdY/DexyHAEdNz0/s640/blogger-image-880245827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xOd7qrW-lrk/UusWRjmmYdI/AAAAAAAABdY/DexyHAEdNz0/s640/blogger-image-880245827.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The right painting in the right spot has the possibilty of not only transforming the mood of a home but also transforming the mood of the artist. Since the kitchen has become the new living room I'm pleased to see this painting of mine hanging in the family's center stage. This piece is now showcased in a San Francisco kitchen which is a great fit.</div>JAY MERCADOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11695035131168661640noreply@blogger.com0
